SOME YEHBOSE DECISIONS. SOCIAL DEMOCRATS COLDSIIOULDEKKD. ISy Telegraph—Press Association. Westport, Last Night. At a meeting of the Wcstnort Waterwlurs' Union to-niglit, an invitation was received from tlic Social Democratic Party .to attend a meeting to be held tu-morrow. After discussion, the union that the Westport Watersiders' Union, while not being adverse or opposed in any way to the principles of the Social Democracy. is unable to scna-ra-te the Democratic Party from the United Federation of Labor (or the party more commonly known a* the "tied Feds"). That being the result of : our reasoninp we feel impelled to urge ■that the policy set out by leaders of th<_. above Federation during the unfortunate period of the recent industrial upheaval was neither social nor democratic. We, being a class of workers j/.vho intend, to allow past events to be our guide as to our future movements, have, after the most careful consideration of the .points at issue, come to the conclusion that the. unfortunate position of Labor in New Zealand at present, can be attributed only to the attempted domination bv one section of the workers over the liberty of another tection of workers, and, especially with the present personnel of the local branch of the Soqial Democratic Party, the su«gested a(Tili|tion of this union wouid he not only an abhorrence to the union, but would, in our opinion, tend to further aggravate a .position that has. already reached the limit of n".l toleration." The union further resolved that the secretary be instructed tc convev to Mr Massey, the Prime Minister, and the Minister for liabor. the sincere thanks of the Westport Waterside Industrial union of Workers for ,tha attitude adopted during the recent industrial disturbance in providing police protection for the bona fide workers throughout New Zealand, and particularly for the protection afforded in opening the Westport waterfront.
