THE SENIOR"'COMPETITION. HIGH SCHOOL DEFEATS UNITED SERVICE. The match between United Service and High School, which was missed out of the first ronnd of the competition, and was played on the High School ground on Saturday, was a surprise packet, for the boys notched their first victory by defeating the Service team by 14 runs in a two-innings match. This leaves Tikorangi Still leading in the'competition, and it is not probable that the unfinished matches will be played. High School went first to the wickctf, and notched 144 runs, of which Oliver made 26 in eight strokes, Court 18, Candy 22, Sykes 33 (which included two "sixers") and Sutherland 10. Service tried eight bowlers. The Service team took a strike with two men absent (including Bain) and made 87 runs. Colvile (14), Mackay (18) and Ingram (2<lf were the doublefigure scorers.
' The second innings of the v school team only realised 24, Osborne's bowling be■ing mainly responsible for the low scoring. In the Service second innings McGie and Newall, with 30 and 20 respectively, made a valiant effort to get the 87 runs required, but just before time the team was disposed of for 67 runs. This time the Service team was three men short, Colvile having left, Following are the scores:— , HIGH SCHOOL.—First Innings.
