James Hill, for riding an uulighted feyele after dark, under extenuating circumstances; 5s without costs. • Willkin Crone, for riding an uulighted motor cycle at 5 a.m.; 7s (id and costs 7s. Thomas Arthur llcrridge (Mr. T. King) pleaded "guilty to having driven a timber wagon in the Borough of New Plymouth without a license. Mr. King said that defendant had told the inspector that he would be putting a timber wagon on the road soon and enquired the amount of the license fee. On the following Monday the Inspector had seen him driving the wagon on the street and he had immediately taken out a license. It was the custom of the inspector to collect his fees on the street. The inspector, however, Gtated that defendant had on March '2l told him that he would be using the wagon, which was then in course of construction, on the following Monday. Witness had rejoined that if he did so he would be prosecuted, but defendant refused to take out a license then. On the Monday he was driving the wagon unlicensed. Xoel C. Harding,\clerk in the oflice of the Xew Plymouth Borough Council, corroborated this story of the conversation bewteen the inspector and the defendant, and his worship inflicted a line of 5s but. as the license was now taken out, he did not make an order for costs.
