The Valley of ChamonijL is smothered by avalanches, the snow reaching to the third floors of the houses. Lakes on the road to Geneva have filled up. An avalanche at Grassounet followed the course of the street. Whole trees were brought down the hillsides, and deposited there. A landslide at Briveß extends over a square mile, and the mountainside is still moving.
