BIG RAILWAY CONTRACT,

A British syndicate lias obtained a contract to extend the Shanghai railway through Hancliang to Pang-lluiang, and is floating a loan of eight millions 111 London.
THREATENED PARTITION OF THE TERRITORY.

The widespread outbreaks in China have been severely crushed. There have been hundreds of executions in Peking and many ex-parliamentarians have been court-martialled and shot. China is disposed to court open partition sooner than surrender financial control to the five Powers' group of bankers. Britishers in Peking urge that it is time Britain openly staked out her claims in China.
