ANNIVERSARY DAY.
• TO-DAY'S' FIXTURES. To-day is the seventy-third, annivcrj- ; .try of the founding of the province of ' ; 'ljaranaki. Browne) has been '4 engaged in perfecting arrangements for ,j 11 fitting celebration of this event iw our < ( history, and a comprehensive programme „ hag been drawn -up. The celebration* --5S in honor of the anniversary, of the bat* if* tie of Waireka, famous in the'history ' ,», of the Maori war in Tnranaki, will bo J held in conjunction with the provincial 1 anniversary celcbralions, and these- two JJi events, which fall so close together, will ' 1 lie fittingly commemorated. 4 * The principal event of the day will .*" take place at Moturoa, where the newlyformed Seaside Improvement Committee Mr. C. W. Williams, organised '■* a full programme of motor launch,, yacht 'i and whnleboat races, as well as other "** athletic events. '"^ The veterans of the province will be - 1 conveyed to Moturoa in the morning, v where they will bo entertained at lunch '■[ and will be present at the sports, hv the evening tile annual veterans' dinner, !' organised by a number of the young men of the town, will take place. Consid- /' erable interest has been taken in tho arrangements for these celebrations, and, . given lino weather, the function should* '' lie well attended by people from att ,| parts of the district. Special arrange- \ ments have been made for excursion g trains to and from tho port. " To-day bavins been declared n puwlic ,; holiday, opportunity* baa been taken to arrange for a number of oilier amusements and sporting fixtures. Those include the opening of the season by the, Tr.rahua Golf Club, ,1 progressive pall*' tournament by the Fitzroy Howling Club, a fnucy dress football match between Star and Tnkapa on the Sports Ground / - in aid of Miss Annie llnwke's "Carnival •,. tjueen" candidature, and .shooting, bv the 1J New Plymouth Defence Rifle Club for the ' 1 Government grant on the Rewa Rewa~ * rifle rem;".
