The Countrv Girl's committee are working hard in their candidate's interest. A series of entertainments has been arranged throughout the district, at which Miss Bishoo will lierform, and a. monster sports picnic has been arranged at Hi II Block for Thursdav, April '■). In addition, several settlers have promised to donate calves, which will be submitted to auction at Wuiwakaiho and I'rcmii sales, and possibly down the coast. A small weilnor pig presented to the committer wiw put up for sale on Saturday, and realised .'llls. This candidate's color.-, white, were very |iromineut on Saturdav.
THE BAND CARNIVAL. \ THE SEASON' EXTENDED. Saturday was a vcrv busy ni K ht at tlic band carnival in the, Theatre liovul. In the dress circle hardlv standing-room was available, whilst in the body of the hall it was almost imposuible' to move about. The takings at the door must easily have constituted .1 record. The stallholders nil appeared to be very busy, wliil-t the crowded state of the hall did not prevent their zealous assistants from flitting about and extracting any coin down to the smallest silver coin pf flip rca'in from their numerals patrons. Tlic Arcadian Revels frolicked gaily. They are improving with each peVf'.rmanee, and the audience., even thofo habitue-: who have attended everv ni"ht, nnil fresli entertainment in witnessing their antics. The programme submitted on Saturday night contained some of the genut of the repertoire, and also some of the most popular. Among the first clas» may bo mentioned the ''Apache Dance,'' in the "Boulevard" scene. This is a remarkable piece of acting on the part of Miss \'et.\ Gilbert and Professor 0. Cnrdston. and that it is not appreciated better by the audience is due t(, it not being understood. Mis- Gilbert was the recipient of a floral emblem. "The Quaker Girl" a Tain proved a very popular item, and Miss Eileen McGnire was loaded with bouquets and showered with coins. During the interval tJio XI. Regiment Band, under Bandmaster ..Cummins, rendered sopic selections ; from (lie slage. "" l " ' _ ] The Citizens' Committee has decided to extend the Band Carnival for three nights—to-night, Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be macticallv a complete change of programme. The rtar item will be ''Reviews" and ''Tie Path of Flowers," bv that popular lady vocalist, Miss Eileen Mctiuive. The stall' is busy to-day preparing for this item. A staging is being erected from, the dress circle down to the stage. Miss McGiiirc will begin "Reviews" in the eiide and walk down the pathway, singiiif. until she reaches the stage. There will be a >howcr of flowers, and the! whole illnminat»d wilh colored electric lamps. Tips item is entirely new, and to-night is introduced into Xe.w Zealand for the first time.
