INGLEWOOD NEWS.

(From Our'Own'Correspondent). The jirglewopd JJOTlir.ultural Society hold a very successful,-show on Wednesday and Thursday, and were favdfed with good weather, although the opening day was, a. bit sto.rmy. A great feature was the fine display of vegetables. A guessing competition proved a great attraction '.for' many, who thought they could tell the weight of live mutton,-arid it is-quite remarkable liow elose most-of the ''guossers" picki.l it. Everything reflected credit on those concerned, ft is rumored that the Farmers' Cooperative Organisation Society intend to revolutionise) things in the district. 1 hear that .the siew Plymouth Band is coming out to.play here at an early date. This is very good news, considering our town cannot run a brass band. .Many years ago, when Inglcwood was in its infancy, we had a very fair band; but-now .the town has gone ahead and is dignified by the title of borough, it cannot'boast.-of a band among its many institutions. This is particularly unfortunate, as a great deal of trouble and expense were absorbed in the Coronation band rotunda, which, by the way, .has not* often been disturbed by the strains of the brass bands, Musical enthusiasm soon evaporates under certain conditions. The instruments are now lying in state in the borough chambers, undisturbed, except for the occasional .temporary absence of the blatant trombone at a string band performance. Howover, cheer up! The scoutmaster is endeavoring to form the young talent into something like a band in the near future. I noticed our electrical engineer doing the rounds with the fire underwriters' inspector, and sincerely hope nothing serious will eventuate.

Several improvement to the town are notieeable, such as Riving .buildings a new coat of paint, fixing up the streets, etc. Mr C. W. A. Matthew?, the genial proprietor of the motor garage, has added a, top Btorey to the building, in which he intends to instal new plant for the repair of cars, motor-cycles, etc., the present workshop proving too small to cope with business.

The new dam for the Electrical Department of the Borough Council is now completed, and appears to be a very solid structure. Now that it is finished it will save councillors a great many tears, as it has been a source of much anxiety during its progress. Nurse Morgan has taken over the business of Nurse Standing.

The Tnglewood bowlers lost their match against Stratford (134 to 137). Wake up. 1.8.'5! It is time you broke your duck's egg! By way'of a chance from 'he ii.-ual ■healthy state of things in this sanitary town, we have one or two cases of scarlet fever. The extension of the sewer system to some of Ihe Uu-k .streets would be a means of improving 'the sanitation of the borough. ■Farmers all round are very Gratified to find the weather so mild—auite unlike the usual weather for this time of the vear. The turnips are promisuu' well.'

Our popular townsman. Mr Campbell Merrylees, is awav in Wellington m business for a, few days. Although ouit'' a recent arrival, he has alveadv made niany friends, and takes a grc.it interest in all, athletic matters.

Dr. Whctter is now.settled down 'n his new sphere, and is very well liked.
