Mr AV. McLenn, secretary of the Honithon Petroleum Company, accompanied 'by Me-M-. Rhodes and .Edmunds, will arrive in New Plymouth by tonight's express.
Captain Adjutant R. H. Matthews, of the Auckland Regimental District, is spending a holiday in Now Plymouth. Before serving in South Africa, Captain Matthews was a resident, of Jnglewood. The funeral of thS late Mrs fleorge McLean took place at Hawera on Wednesday, and was very largely attorn* ' by settlers from all naits of Taranaki, widespread syiniiatbv being felt for the family of the deceased lady, who. with her husband, had been among the pioneers of the district. ,
The Xew Plymouth High .School Board has appointed Mr C. 0. Bottrill, M.A., of Auckland, to take charge of the preparatory classes at the Boys' High School. Mr Bottrill comes with very high credentials, and should materially strengthen the staff. In addition to the M.A. degree with honors, ho holds a "li" certificate, and has had three vears in the Auckland Training College. For the past two vcars he has been responsible for the organisation of the schools on the Great, Barrier, and hi.-, work there has met with marked success. H'!
is an Auckland senior cricketer, and has a sound knowledge of all branches of sport. He will, we understand, take up hU new duties on April 1.
