The East End strolling players will not, as erroneously stated, be in evidence this afternoon, but to-night they will produce some novel and interesting items, the players assembling first at the Red House Hotel. A very enjoyable dance was held in the Brougham Street Hall last night in aid of Miss Hawke's candidature for. Carnival Queen. There wa3 a verv good attendance. Messrs. J. Stohr and S. Paul, as M.Cs, kept the dance moving merrily to the tuneful strains of the piano (Mrs Wods) and the violin (Mr Van Heck). At Egmont Village on Thursday night, a concert was given in aid of the candidature of Miss Hilda Bishop, who contributed a recitation to the splendid programme arranged by the energetic Sports Committee. Miss Bishop was most heartily cheered. She i 3 promised support from quite a large number of districts, who are raising social gatherings to further her candidature. Egmont Village, Kaimiro, Korito, Kent Road, Carrington Road, and quite a number of young men from Inglcwood, are taking the.matter up most heartily. This epidemic "is spreading like . the measles. It takes some time to develop, but it is infectious, and is not likely to abate to any great extent until on or about April 11. Everybody's doin' it! Doin' what? Why, getting votes for the Country Girl, Miss Hilda Bishop!— (Own correspondent.)
