Annie Hawke'a Cal* nival Queen candidatnre. The pr»' gramme was worth the individual attention of any musical patron. The item} by Mr. Van Heck's orchestra, which tool :i prominent part in the performance covered a wide range of classical oft chestral music, including' 'Wfonstral Viarn," F. T-ehar's "CoM and Silver" tin] "Cavalleria Rusticami." All their item! were encored. Captain Stevens, (hi popular Territorial jester, was a primf favorite in his monologue work, and haj to respond to numerous ences. Mr H Ingram sang "Two Eyes of Grey" with a fine orchestral accompaniment, and wnf enthusiastically encored for this anl other numbers. a The scrutineers for the Carnival Queefl voting contest will be in attendance t« count the votes to-night, and it is bona ed that the position of the candidate*' with the actual number of votes in eaclf ease, may be published in to-morrovt morning's issue. 0 i The East End committee beld a vent successful social and dance in their pavjl lion last night, when a very eniovahll programme of vocal items, including songs by Messrs. Xippert Bros., and J. Lovell, and a pianoforte solo b]J Mr 11, Bainbriilge, was submitted. Thf floor was in good order, and danc'nfl was kept up to a late hour. v The committee of "The Country GirP are still busv. A big sports gathering is in view at Bell Block at an early datd£ and a social and dance will be neld if the Fitzroy Hall the week after next. < The swimming carnival in aid of Mtaf Hawke's candidature will take placf on Monday evening. Messrs J.S.Connett and J. R. Ilill wer# appointed to arrange the concert programme. Settlers have kindly donated animals in connection with the day's) amusement, the proceeds to be derived
