BA.NNEK, FINALS. WON BY NEW PLYMOUTH. (From Out Stratford Htpoitcr.) Under ideal weather conditions, the imals 111 the inter-club banner matches were played on the Stratford green yestcrday, and some very interesting game, deciding the respective meats of tlie .Sew Plymouth and Opunake teams, but tho result proved that the former were decidedly superior, winning by » o od margins in two rinks, the third rink alone failing to score a victory, the honors being even. The Hawera players, who had to contest the possession 0 f the banner with the winners of tho New Plymouth and Opunake match, arrived during the morning in readiness to play after the luncheon adjournment. The visiting bowlera were cordially welcomed by Mr Geo. Smart, who apologised for the unavoidable absence of the president of the Stratford Club, and extended to the players his best wishes for a pleasant and enjoyable game.

NEW PLYMOUTH v. OPUNAKE. In the early stages of the play in this match some good shots were registered, Burgess and Firth doing excellent work and the respective skips coming to light when required. When the adjournment for morning tea took place, H. Smart headed tho scores with 10 against Des Forges 3, winning four out of six heads. Harrison led by 5 to 2 (4 heads to 21, and A. K. Smart by 0 to 4 (three heads each). On resuming, the Opunake leads put in some good work, and Dud.cy showed to advantage by securing 3, and equalising the scores 'at his rink. A. K. Smart, as usual, showed to ad vantage both in drawing and driving. Opunake were playing pluckilv and with judgment, but the luck was frequently against them.

At the tenth head IT. Smart was leading by 13 to 6, and A. K. Smart hv 12 to 6, while Harrison had onlysecmvd the advantage of one. The total scores at this stage were New Plymouth 32, Opunake 18. The figure 'six loomed large at,4his point of the game, the New Plymouth skipg having each secured 6 heads,' and the Opunake scores at each rink toeing 6 apiece, they having at each rink scored on 4 heads.

Opunake now put forth a good effort, hut they could not make headway against the consistently good play of their opponents. At the 15th head New Plymouth led by 47 to 23, the rink scores 1> ins 18-7, 10-0, and 10-7, A. K. Smart havine topped the score. At the 19th head, H. Smart led by 10-9, but lost the following head by one. Some fine play by Morev and Des Forges took place, but the latter just failed to .increase his ■score. He redeemed this misfortune in the last head by cleverlv notching 3, and the game ended 20-13. At Harrison's rink the play was very even, the final score being 10 all. A. K. Smart proved too much for his opponent, winning easily by 27-10, his score .including two threes and one four. But for H. Smart scoring two 4's 1 in succession (he "result would have been more even !it his rink, but his opponents could not recover their lost wound. Scores:— NEW PLYMOUTH., (1) Luscombe, Burgess, Firth, A. K. Smart (s) 27 (2) Coldwater, Plumtrec, S. Bundle, Harrison (a) 10 (ff) Fookes, Penn, Morey, IT. Smart (») 20

Great interest was shown ; n the meetinf? of ITawera and New Plvmonth in the final for the banner, and, as play proceeded, the centre of attraction was the rink in which Parkinson and A. K. Smart were opposed to one another. This was certainly the most keenly contested game, Parkinson starting well and forging ahead right through. It was the last rink to finish, i.nd on the result depended the possession of the banner. Right up to the hut shot the issuo was in doubt, for it seemed as if a tie was inevitable, but Smart, with a splendidlyjudged bowl, crept in and saved one, thus enabling New Plymohrth to secure victory by 57 to 3(1 on the total scores. At both the tenth and fifteenth heads the totals were equal on each side, and although New Plymouth got the advantage in two out of three of the Tinks, the deficit on the third made matters very interesting throughout the contest. ITawera deserve greatj credit for making such a close finish, and Air Parkinson is to be congratulated not onlv on his own play, but on that of the members of his rink.

The visiting bowlers wwrc entertained at a sumptuous afternoon tea, a courtesy which they greatly appreciated. The following are the scores:— NEW PLYMOUTH. (1) [iii-combe, Burgess, Firth, A. K.
