Opunake Railway
JUNCTION AT TE HOTI. AN EARLY START WILL HE MADE. MANAIA BRANCH AUTHORISED. (Special to Daily News). Wellington, Last Night. The Government has decided upon what is known as the Te Roti route for the Opunake railway. This is mid-way between the railway reserve and the route recommended by the Opunake Railway Commission. There will be a branch to Manaia, which will be made as soon as the line reaches Kapuni. The first sod will be turned at Opunake, although the commencement will be made about Te Roti. Mr. Wilkinson, member for Egmont. has cordially invited members of the Ministry to visit Opunake to turn the first sod, the date for which will be arranged on Mr. Massey's return from the South next week. The Chief Engineer estimates that it will take about two months to complete the plans, when the work will be put in hand. It is the intention of the Government to push on the completion of the line.
