Reuters Washington correspondent states that stubborn opposition has arisen in the House against the repeal of the tolls. A peculiar feature is that Mr. Clark, the Speaker, Mr. Underwood, and other politicians who usually support the Administration, are now opposing the repeal. THE PRESIDENT AND THE PARTIES Received 24, 10.15 p.m. New York, March. 23. The President, answering the objection that the repeal of the Panama tolls was inconsistent with the Democratic platform, points out that the Exemption Bill was carried only with the aid of tli'e Republican votes. The president expects the support of two hundred Democrats when the House votes.
