HON. FISHER AND FANATICS
A POLICY OF PREVENTION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Pongaroa, Last Night. The Hon. F. M. B. Fisher arrived at Pongaroa, via Ekctahuna, on Saturd.v night, accompanied by Messrs. It. J. Holmes, Chief Government Marine Engineer, Sykes and Eseott, M's.P. He was deputationised and banquetted. and given a hearty reception by a large gathering. He said that the fanatics, who had°determine(l that he should not be heard in Wellington, had written to him since anonymously, intimating that neither Mr Herdmnn nor himself would be beard until after the elections were over He said he bad been practically howled down by about ISO degenerates, by whom the meeting was controlled. But this would have the opposite effect to that intended bv the lied Feds and would strengthen ihe position of the Government. The Minister nroceeded to-dav to Akitio. and returns to-morrow to deliver a political address here. With Mr Holmes, the Hon. F. M. B. Fisher inspects the Aohangn and Akitio rivers, relative to (harbor schemes.
