A LONG LIST OF MINOR CRIMES.

T,° Justiw ' s the two .ouths Mathews a „d Wilson, • escapees from Burnham, pleaded guilty to a long list of oflences committed after they arrived in South Canterbury. Thev broke into the hall at Oniri; stole two miniature rides at Aiwhenua and Opihi; broke into half-a-dozen fishing nuts and stole provisions and about £5 worth of various articles. At Timaru they tried to steal a motor and fishin* launch (to make a trip to Auckland, they said, but could not manage the engine, and stole oil from two other hunches. They stole the Harbor Board's dinghy to get from one to another, and left it adrift and it »ot damaged, costing £ll 8s to repair. They also broke into the cool stores and stole provisions, and next broke open the Timaru Eille Club's magazine and stole 470 rounds of ammunition. Both were arrested sleeping in a straw stack on a farm at St. Andrew's, after breaking into a farmer's grain store and stealing some articles.
On March 11 they escaped from custody, and on the same or the next day broke into the Defence Department's store and stole two rifles and some ammunition; and broke into a house at Timaru and a tent at Paeroa, When subsequently arrested, one near Timaru and one at Waitaki. each had a revolver not mentioned in the charges. Both were: committed for sentence.
