SITTING AT DUN^DIK. By Telegraph— Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. At a sitting of the Railway Appeal Board, held to-day, Mr W. R. Haselden presiding, George Burnett, chief clerk in the District Er.f/ineer's office at Dunedin, appealed against being superseded by J. Young, who occupied a similar position in Ohristchiirch, but was lower in the classification list than the, appellant, in the appointment of land officer in the Wellington office. ..Tames Burnett (Chief Engineer of Railways), F. W. McLean (Chief Inspwtiii" Ei,..i. neer), and Hunter MaeAndrew (DistrhV Engineer) gave evidence in favor of the appellant, the Chief Engineer's report showing that annellant had ben recommended for promotion to Grade V. The three engineers considered appellant was just as qualified for the Wellington position as Youn . The Chief Engineer admitted that he wa3 of opinion that Ws relationship to appellant (they are brothers) had asted as a bar to appellant's claims, as the land officer was immediately under the control of the Chief Engineer, and he agreed that it was perhaps undesirable to; have relation* working in #hc same office. The Board reserved its decision. Angus Cameron, engine-driver at Dunedin, appealed against heing superseded by a junior for the position of depot chargeman. Appellant stated that a locomotive foreman since superannuated' had informed him (appellant) that he had recommended him for promotion. TT. Davidson, representing the T>par*•"ont. rend two official reports from "i" locomotive foreman in question, who stated that Cameron had not sufficient control of the men when he was foreman and washer-out in the engine-sheds. Two other officers of the Locomotive Department stated that although appelant was an excellent engine-driver, te was unfitted hj/ his temverament to cvnrcißo judic.io..- control.
