BUSINESS UNDER SLAVE CONDITIONS.
Times and Sydney Sun Services. Received 19, 5.35 p.m.
As a sequel to the Putumayo scandals, the Official Receiver reports that the Peruvian-Amazon Company's failure was due to lack of effective control i>;y English directors and their failure in the first instance to ascertain the character of the business and the gross mismanagement by South American employees. The result was that the company found the business unsaleable, because it was carried on under slave conditions.
