ALLEGED DEFAMATION.
WAIPAWA DOCTORS TX COURT. Bv Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. The medical libel action, in which Dr. Deck, of VA'aipawa. claimed from Dr. Reed, also of Waipawa, AlaOl damages in respect of alleged defamatory statements contained in a letter addressed by the defendant to Dr. South, plaintill" i partner, reflecting on the professional conduct of the plaintiff in attending a patient, of defendant, was concluded to-day. There was a second count with respect to another statement made in a letter to Dr. Todd, of "Waipawa; and a third count in respect to similar statements made in a letter to Dr. Henley, Napier, as secretary of the Hawkc's Bay branch of the British Medical Association. The jury returned a verdict for the defendant on the first count, and awarded plaintiff £l5O on the second count, the issues on the third count not being put to the jury. Mr. Justice Edwards said the verdict was inconsistent, and g-anted leave to both parties to move, plaintiff for judgment, and defendant for a non-suit, on Friday morning.
