' '., A NEW PHASE. I!y Telegraph—Press Association.. Christchurch, Last Night . Two writs, one for a large amount, and tile other for a smaller 311 m, have been, issued'at : the' instigation of the Customs Department against Messrs. Barlow Bros., the well-known merchants of _ Christchurch, who, up to a little while ago, had a lanre wholesale business in tobacco and general smoking utensils. The writs have been issued to claim duty which the Department has alleged has not been paid, through the actions of airi'ernployee of the firm, who, it is alleged, was mixed up in the Customs frauds. The emnloyce has left the city., but the Department has taken the stand that f,hc Arm is responsible for the amount involved although it knew nothing of the depredations. 1 ~ ■
