Auckland, Last The Auckland Waterside Workers' Union lias in hand a scheme for supplyin;; its own members and those attached to arbitration unions throughout the city, with meat at cost price. On Saturday a special ineeting_of the u::ion will he held for the purpose of considering a large scheme to be placed on a proper business basis. This is the first attempt, made by a' New Zealand trade union to adopt a co-operative pirchase principle. Just now the idea is .being tried on ■■* small scale, and members of the union are purchasing their meat direct from the freezing chambers, with the. result that they are obtaining lamb at fourpence a noimd, and mutton at H'/L-d. this being practically one-half of the. current prices in Auckland.
