On Friday evening an Arbitrationist watersider, Nicols Saunderß, who had had a strenuous argument with a Federationist watersider, was suddenly attacked from behind inia side-street md knocked down by a blow from an iron bar, and brutally kicked. His assailant escaped by dodging through the railway yards. To-day, acting on information received, two detectives proceeded to a lonely bay on Rangitoto Island in the Hauraki Gulf, and there arrested Alfred Madigan on a charge of assault. Madigan was discovered lying in the bottom of a boat, and was much sur prised by the appearance of the detectives.
