HOME MARKETS. By Cable —Press Association —Copyright London, March 15. At the wool sales there was better competition for greasy croßsbreds; merinos were unchanged. The following prices were realised for the fleece portions of the clips named:—Jo, top price . l'i'/Sjil, average ll'/jju, Oolianga, lid and lO'/jd; AraUihi, 13d and ll'/jd. Catalogued, 1311,518 halca; sold, 12!>,510 bales. Wheat.—Dull and unchanged; 3(is 4 l / 2 d is asked. The wheat and Hour afloat for the i United Kingdom is 3,925,000 quarters, | for the Continent 2,205,000 quarters; i Atlantic shipments 300,000 quarters, ; Pacific 5000 quarters. The total to I Europe is 1,626,000 quartet's, including Australian 340,000 quarters. I Copra.—Flat; South Sea bags Marclij April £26 10a. Cotton—March-April 6.65 d. I Hemp.—Steady; March-May £2O. Rubber —Para 3s, plantation 2s 'l'/ad. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. Following is the High Commissioner's market rep#rt, under date London, March 14. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot): — Mutton.—The market is firm. North Island 4d. The demand is chiefly for light-weight at as high as 4%d. There was dull Bale for heavy carcases at 4%d. Lamb. —There is good demand for aft lamb, but prices have slightly declined for all grades on accouut of large suplies coming forward. Canterbury fl'/ 2 d, r heavy weights 6%d, other than Canterbury 6y 4 d. Beef.—The market is very dull on I account of supplies of American chilled I beef being large, but there is no change lin prices. New Zealand hinds 4'/ 2 d, i fores 4d, chilled hinds sd, fores 3%d. River Plate shipments received during February were: —London, mutton 28,400, lamib 7581; Liverpool, mutton 81,725, lamb 9008; Cardiff, mutton 5000, lamb 500; Hull, mutton 7896, lamb 1035; Newcastle, mutton 12,077, lamb, 770; Ireland mutton, 3610, lamb nil. Totals —February 1914, mutton 138,708, lamb 18,894. Totals—February, 1913, mutton 209,405, lamb 3C.605.
Butter. —The market is dull and prices irregular. Danish 121? to 124 a, New Zealand 110s to 114s, Australian 108s to 112s, Argentine 108s to 110 a, Siberian 108b to 112s. Cheese.—The market is steady at the decline. The Canadian market is slow, white 08s to 70s, colored 70s to 71s. New Zealand is in fair demand, white 62s to 63s 6d, colored 84s 6d t« 65s (3d; Australian, white 62s to 62s fid, colored 63s to 655. Hemp.—The market is somewhat steadier and there is more demand for New Zealand. Good fair per ton £25 ss, fair £22 10s; April to June shipments, good fair £25 15s, fair £22 15s. The stock at the end of February was 1612 tons Manila, fair current £26 10s in all positions. The output from Manila for the week was 20,000 bales. Sißal—-The market is quiet at £26 10s. Wheal —Tlie market has declined by 3d per quarter.
TAEANAKI WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALE. Mr. Newton King reports:— On Tuesday, March 10,1 held my usual four-weekly sale of the above produce, the catalogue comprising: 82 bales and 162 sacks wool, 1687 sheepskins, fi-JS hides, 11 casks and 46 tins tallow, 180 calfskins, and the usual assortment of hair, tails, etc. There was a large attendance of buyers, and competition was very keen throughout the offering. Wool—ln sympathy with the rise in the recent London sales, there was a sharp advance in prices. Good, bright, clean lines of lambs' wool were %d per II) dearer, whilst fleece was '/oil to %t] per lb higher. The hulk of the wool catalogued, however, carried a fair amount of utuwai seed, badly seedy being not wanted and hard to quit. Sheepskin'*—'Consequent on the rise in wool prices, these showed a corresponding advance under brisk competition. I'ull-wool skins were '/ 2 d per lb higher, lambskins, '/>d to %d. quarter wools '/,il and pelts Id to ]>/,d per lb higher. Hides—An excited market with an unsatisfied demand. Ox advanced 1 /><l to l%d per lb, cow %d to %d, and yearlings 2d to 2%d per n>. Tallow —Very tirm; par to 5s higher. Calfskins—Very few now offering. Values '/ 2 d higher.
