SOME WONDER* uL ESCAPES. " By Cable —Press Association—Copyright Sydney, March 18. : Some extraordinary escapes character ised the railway disaster. One man and his wife escaped with a ■light shock, while Minnis and his wife, in the opposite seat, were killed. Another passenger, while sitting still. kad two dead bodies thrust upon him. Several children in the fatal carriages •were thrown into corners or on the racks, and were lifted out little the worse for their startling experiences. So completely were the four compart ments wrecked that it is marvellous any escaped. _ NEW ZEALAND SYMPATHY. If*-, By Telegraph—Press Association. Nelson, Midnight. The Right Hon. W. F. Massey, the Prime Minister, sent the following cable to the Premier of New South Wales, regarding the railway disaster: —"On belialf of the Government and people of New Zealand, I desire to express our deep regret at the railway calamity which has occurred in your State, and also offer our sincere sympathy to •the bereaved' relatives and friends of the sufferers.—W. F. Massey."
