The New Plymouth Amateur Swimming Club has every reason to be pleased with the carnival which was held under its auspices in the municipal baths on Thursday night. The long programme was got off in good style by the officials. The entries were unusually good, swimmers from Waitara, Hawera, Inglewood and Stratford being present. The polo match between New Plymouth and Hawera was interesting, the only fault to he found being a slight lack of combination among both teams. The Hawera team was the same as that which lost to New Plymouth in the West Coast Championship meeting, except for the inclusion of Claringbold, in place of Squires. Claringbold won the match for the visitors by a well shot goal, quite the best happening of the match. He is n good swimmer who has won honors in Australia as well as locally. The 100 yards open race was an interesting event, Claringbold and Kivell (Stratford) swimming a dead heat for first place. The former, who was on scratch, pulled up three or four yards in a spirited final dash. Seabright, of Inglewood, made a good plunge of 53 feet, only two feet ahead of A. V. Stohr. the runner-up. One pleasing feature of the meeting was a High School boys' race which drew an entry of ten hoys, and provided an interesting contest, which showed the school to be possessed of some promising swimmers.
