THE ANTARCTIC.
DR. MAVVSON WELCOMED. By Cable —Press Association —CopyrigM Received 12, 9 p.m. Sydney, March 12. The Lord Mayor and the Hon A. C. Carmichael, and a large gathering in the Town Hall, welcomed Dr. Mawsoii. He stated that popular lectures would be delivered in Australia before in England. The popular story of the expedition would be printed in England, but the scientific results, which would occupy many volumes, would be published in Australia. He declared that the Antarctic played the greatest part in the world's climate -or any land mass. He mentioned that the wind-driven snow formed an impervious mask over the face. The weirdness was increased at nigbt by blue lights scintillating from the face, hands, and clothes, which he supposed was due to the electricity wherewith the atmosphere was surcharged.
