ENTERTAINMENTS.

PAUL DUFAULT. AN AETIST IN SONG. New Plymouth rather justified the accusation sometimes mado against it of a lack of artistic temperament, by* the meagre audience which assembled for Mr, Paul Dufault's second concert in tie Theatre Hoyal last night. The charge lies at tho door of the absentees, however, for those who were mesent showed abundant appreciation. Paul Dufault was, as at 111s flrst appearance, the idol of the evening. A comparison of the methods of other singers will readily show the reason for Mr. Dufault's success in works of such descriptive value as "Au Pays.' Wheje the average vocalist flounders in an inept extravagance, of emotion, Paul Dufault sings—therein lies the difference. He is an artist in song and lives each character as he tells its story. His programme last night was long and varied, giving plenty of scope for hisi powers. Perhaps his best were the French "Au Pays," ad "How's My Bo*." Of Mr. Dufault's associates, periiaps it ia sufficient to say that they arc worthv of him. Mr. Ernest Toy again delighted the audience as a violinst in a varied programme of hi?h-classi numbers. Miss Bindley was accorded an enthusiastic reception. She has a charming presence, and a charming voice which, when shorn of a few defects in articulation, will make her heard of before long. She and Mr. Dufault are charming in duet. Mr. Harold Whittle did full justice to the accompaniments, which is saying much. A fine upright Bechstein grand piano was used.
