CAPTAJX AND MRS. ARMOTRONG. An interesting event took olaee in Waitara on Tuesday, when Captain and .Mrs. Armstrong celebrated their golden wedding (says the Mail). Thev received their relatives—sons, daughters and grand-children— at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. .1011, Princess street, where on the lawn a marquee was erected. This was gaily decorated, the predominating colors being golden, and that, with tree ferns, made a handsome interior. The bride carried a shawl she had worn fifty years ago when she took the Captain for better or worse, and she w»3 accompanied also on this occasion by her original bridesmaids—Mrs. Chas. Messenger and Miss Mace—and she was presented by her children with a gold wedding ring to replace the one placed upon her finger by her choice ot fifty years ago, this old ring bcini; just about worn out. The toa3t of the eld couple's health was pionosed by Captain Mace, in happy terms, and the bridegroom responded, thanking those around him and his wife for their kind remem/ranees. The bridesmaid's health was proposed by Mr. F. Armstrong, of Mahoenui, and in this ease, Captain Mace also responded. Besides the gold wedding ring, the children also pave their mother a gold brooch, and their father a silver-mount-ed walking stick, suitably inscribed, and there were a number of other uresents, besides congratulatory telegrams. In the evening some old friends from Tikorangi, r -eompanied by a tin-can brigade of the younger generation eame down. There were also some tin-fanner* from Waitara, and the whole Dart- were invited inside, jollity reigning supreme. A memento of the occasion will be a photograph taken during the afternoon.
