THE IRONWORKERS'' STRIKE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, March 11. It is estimated that £60,000 was lost in wages owing to the ironworkers' strike. WORK FOR WATERSIDERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. The Prime Minister, in reply to a deputation of the old Waterside Workers' Union, which waited on him on the 28th of last month in regard to unemployment, has written to the secretary stating that work will be found for fifty men by the Public Works Department. Several waterside workers, at present unemployed, intend to avail themselves of the offer. OOACHWORKERS' DISPUTE. Wellington, Yesterday. In the Wellington Coachworkers' dispute, in the Arbitration Court, the men's representative stated that since an unanimous agreement was arrived at before the Conciliation Council, the union had decided to turn down the recommendations and now asked for the Canterbury award, with the exception of a clause relating to hours. The men wanted a 44-hour week in place of 48 as at present. The employers agreed to the Conciliation Council's recommendations, with the exception of the clause relating to preference. They wanted the Dominion award's preference clause instead. Decision was reserved.
