BATHERS' IMMODESTY.

STRONG CRITICISM AT AUCKLAND. ■'WOMEN LYING ALMOST NUDE." By Telegraph-Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. I Serious complaints as to the immodest | behaviour of Sunday bathers on the Milford Beach were made at a meeting of the Takapuna Ratepayers' Association last evening, one of the ratepayers strongly urging that the situation now called for more adequate police supervision. The subject cropped up on the suggestion that the Tramway Company should be asked to erect sign-posts to guide visitors to the Takautma Beach. Mr Mahony questioned the desirability of taking any steps to attract visitors to the vicinity of the lake in view of what happened at Milford Beach, lie thought it was just as well that visitors should go right on to the termims of the tramway. "The scenes witnessed on Milford Beach on Sundays aro really disgraceful," he continued. "With hundreds of people about, bathers lie on the beach, and you can see grown-up young women lying there almost nude. I strongly believe that a second constable should be appointed, on account of the most offensive attitude taken up by bathers of both sexes from morning till night. If I had a young daughter, I would on no account allow her to go down on Milford Beach, and see th-i crowd there," warmly concluded the speaker. Mr W. Blomfield joined in the last speaker's protest against the behaviour of bathers, but pointed out that the Borough Council were "oin" to. nut tin commodious bathing-stations. Sneaking of immodest behaviour of youn» women, Mr Blomfield mentioned an incident when a "young lady" shouted to her friends, "Wihose going to hold a handkerchief while I undress?" Mr Malionv observed that even if the bathing-stations were erected it would not entirely check the nuisance, as most of the offensive behaviour complained of took place after bathing.
