THE AUCKLAND TOURISTS. Til.! Auckland Bowling Chili's rinks completed their tour yesterday, when they played two matches and were de fcated in both. in tin; morning the} wont down .somewhat easily to five rinks from the New Plymouth Club, and ill tin- afternoon Fitzroy defeated them in a four-rink match by a narrow margin. The Aucklanders leave for borne by the mail train this morning. The trip lias been a most enjoyable one the bowlers unanimously a wee, although perhaps at limes there has been 100 much wind. It has been somewhat- of a record, inasmuch as the team lias played nine official matches during the tour, viz, one at Marton, two at Wanganui, one at Ilawcra, one at Stratford, and four at New Plymouth, without a win. An additional match was. played at Stratford, and in this the visitors tasted the joys of victory. The details of the matches were as follow: NEW PLYMOUTH v. AUCKLAND. Jn the morning the visitors played a ■match against five New Plymouth Club rinks on the latter's green. Four of •the local rinks were practically identical with those which annexed the Com■memoration Cup at Auckland last year, the only difference being that in A. K. (Smart's rink Plumtree was replaced In Jenkinson at third, in Goldwater's link ■J. Avery replaced Govett as second, and in Rundle'g rink Eraser replaced Harrop i as lead. The result of the four "Auckland" i inks proved an easy win for New ,Plymouth by 102 points to 48, every local rink being up. The fifth rink, however, was two down, and New Plymouth won on the aggregate by 52 points. The visitors were entertained at morning tea. Detailed scores were: N.P. A. Chancy. Cock, .lenkinson, A. K. ' In the afternoon a four rink match was played at Fitzroy against the suburban club, and here the visitors were narrowly defeated. Each tc,i.m had the advantage in two rinks, but Fitzroy won on the aggregate by seven points. The visitors were hospitably entertained by the Fitzroy Club, and at the termination of the game, Mr. Wilson, on behalf of the visitors, called for three cheers for the local club. He spoke of the hospitality they had received throughout the trip, and of the fine greens they had played on everywhere. After all, he said, a fine green and a good game appealed first to a howler's heart, whether they won or lost was a secondary consideration. lie issued a cordial invitation to the New Plymouth suburban clubs to pay a visit to Auckland. In responding, Mr. XV. Healy remarked that the game that afternoon had been anyone's. Fitzroy had nearly lost it. He anticipated returning the visit to Auckland next year. Referring to the hospitality experienced by the visitors on tour, he remarked that the hospitality of bowlers was proverbial.
