WILL INTERVIEW THE KING. A COMING SOCIAL EVENT. TIIE LATEST MALADY. By Cable--"Press Association —Copyright London, March 8. While proceeding to a demonstration in Trafalgar Square, Miss Sylvia Pankhurst was arrested for the sixth time under the Cat and Mouse Act. The members of the demonstration, which included i.er East Euil bodyguard, were exasperated and attempted to march to Downing street, but the police frustrated them, and nine were arrested. The Home Secretary informed Mrs. Pankhurst that hei' petition would be presented to the King, but lie was unable to advise his Majesty to receive a deputation. She thereupon wrote to the King declaring that the Ministers were not elected by women and were not responsible to the latter, and were not entitled to interpose, adding that in pursuance of lier right she would personally present the petition. With the other representatives of the Women's Social and Political League she would proceed to Buckingham Palace at a date hereafter to be fixed, and will claim an audience. It is understood it will be after Easter, in the height of the London season. A WELL-PLANNED ARREST. Received 9. 11.15 p.m. London, March 9. The Men's League, in connection with women's suffrage, organised tlie Trafalgar Square meeting, which included a |large East End contingent. Miss Sylvia Pankhurst travelled by onmibus, two | detectives accompanying her. though | she was unaware of their presence. She was arrested when about to join the meeting, which knew nothing nf her arrest until too late to interfere. Inflammatory speeches were made, demanding her release. Miss Paterson, waving a flag, led the bodyguard at the double, but a forc-e of mounted police easily suppressed the disturbance.
