Tlii' .borough engineer reports as follows: .M reels.— Approximately 216 cubic jar..s of mi'ttil and gravel have been usnl in repairing the. various streets and roads. Footpaths—Several miles have been cleaned, 12 chains fornied and six chails covered with gaol gravel. Soltar.—4oo gallons of soltar preparation have been sprayed on Currie street between Devon street and Powdcrham street, Drains.—The drain pipes at the back oi Nur-e Pike's Hospital are now laid. Waterworks. —Tile caretaker reports everything working satisfactorily at the lillurs. Loan work. —Doralto road: The formation is complete, except for trimming up, which is now being done. Work at the bridge is progressing satisfactorily. The approaches are not yet commenced, hut will be taken in hand shortly. The whole work should be complete within three weeks and the road open for trallic. The fillings will be sufficiently consolidated to allow the water mains to be, carted out immediately on their arrival. ' This will save double handling. Watson street: Plans and specifications of this street are ready and tenders are being called. Liardct street: The tilling is complete, but will require trimming up after it has consolidated. Holdsworlhy road: The formation work is progressing satisfactorily. Hobson street. The formation is being pushed on a- fast as possible. Maclean street: The formation is now in hand. Vivian street west: The countersinking ii complete and ready to receive the metal. Victoria road (metalling): 300 cubic yards of boulders are delivered at the crusher site ready for crushing. Motaroa road: This road is being repaired with gaol gravel, as it is not advisable to remctal until the tramway is being laid. Outfield road (culvert): Borings have been taken and a good foundation found at eight feet below the surface. Powderham street (retaining wall): Borings have been taken on the northern side and a good foundation found at from 17 to 23 feet below the surface. Kerbing and channelling. Silver street: The kerb and channel is complete. Powdcrham sstreet: The kerb and channel is complete from Silver street to Robe street. (lover street: The kerb is complete from Leach street , to Fillis street. The channel is now being done. j Waterworks—New conduit: This work t is progressing satisfactorily. Enormous boulders are being met with in the trench towards the eastern end. The excavations for the dam across the Mangamahoe stream are nearly complete, and building operations will be commenced within a few days (weather permitting). LOAM EXPENDITURE.
