The police have a warrant for the arrest of the solicitor in question on a charge of forgery, but his present whereabouts are unknown, although he was in Dunedin a few days ago. The sum involved is said ito amount to £3OOO. There is a humorous side to a statement interpolated in a cablegram for which the Press Association is apologising just now (says the Feilding Star). Tlie cable operator at La Perouse (N.S.W.) was sending in the "witching hour of night" a message referring at some length to the prevalence of immorality in Japan, and in a moment of levity interjected in the middle of the message: "Burns, Philp and Co (a great shipping firm) are arranging for excursion fares to Japan—Ah! Hal" The operator at this end, probably half asleep, did not see the joke, and neither iid the sub-editors of our morning papers ; consequently, with the exception of the exclamations, "Ah Ha!" the message was published in all its baldness. Strange to say, the Burns, Philp Co. also were not equal to realisation of the humor, and the joking operator had to be dismissed and an apology published by the papers.
