The lursc should have been entered in two racesHurdles (12.4) and President's llandican (S.B). , , TUIIF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.'') Opunake races on Tuesday Patronale is to he given three mon tin' spell. White Crane's form at Wanganui was very po«r. Mr T. Wilson's Manakau will probably join J. O'Neill's team this week. Mr Berwick's grey, Uniform, with Alec Mitchell up, won a race at Wanganui on Monday. Crawford, Florist and St. Serf will be given an opportunity to show their ability over sticks at the Opunake meeting.
Lconta must be about the most unlucky equine racing on thiß coast. His rider, Berry, lost his stick half a mile from home in the Wanganui Stakes., and then he only just failed by -half aj head to catch the winner. A stride past the post Leonta was in front—but that's poor consolation! Hector Gray went across to Melbourne after the Dunedin meeting, and scored his first success on Wallalo in the richly-endowed Essendon Stakes. Gray has promises of good rides over there, and this scribe, for one, would not be surprised if the canable little Taranaki horseman settled down in 'Stralia.
Cornelian looked a stono better horae at Wanganui than at New Plymouth, and there was a good deal of merit about his victory on Saturday. The fences are not easy at Wanganui, nor was the track fast, yet the Hinvcra horsa won in hollow fashion, leaving the mile and three-quarters behind in 3min 15sec. —A gallop which points to him running prominently -in big "stickevents" this winter.
Tlie finish for the Wanganui Stakes was as fine a ono as any sport could wish to see, Marshal McDonald just reaching tho post lit front of Leonta by indies only, while Moutoa Girl was a head away third, and Los Angelos a neck back in fourth place. Sea Pink was badly interfered with when Bronze and Tiresome well. Ouierwise he might have been seen troubling the leaders.
