; A VALUELESS CHEQUE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court, Harry Wynne Hartog was sent to gaol for two months on a charge of obtaining money from Samuel Gilmer, of the Koyal Oak Hotel, by :i valueless l cheque. Accused had posed at Dr. Hartog, who was going to the Medical Congress at Auckland, but he never nmieiired there. Tin; police declared that Hartog was well known, !n;\\u;r been twice convicted in Victoria. EMBEZZLEMENT. Wellington, Last Night. Arthur Richards, a young man, pleaded guilty at the Magistrate's Court to two charges of stealing £1 7s sd, the property of the Labor Department, and lis, the property of the Government. Mr. Macaesey, for the Labor Department, stated that the total amount of moneys received by defendant, and unaccounted for from September 13, 1913 to January 26, 1914, was £92 9s Gd[ but full restitution had since been made. Accused had been in the Labor Department for three years, and had hitherto borne a good character. On the first charge accused was lined is, or 21 days' imprisonment, and on the second charge he was convicted and ordered to appear for sentence when called upon. A DRIVER IN TROUBLE.
