PERSONAL.
The Rev. A. Thomson, Presbyterian minister at Potone, is reported to be seriously ill in Wellington. Mr. F. A. Bremer, tho well-known South Taranaki stock breeder, is lying seriously ill in Xew Plymouth. Mr and Mrs T. 0. Fookes, of Stratford, are visiting relatives in New Plymouth prior to undertaking a trip to the Old Country. They will probably return to the Dominion next October.
A Christchureh message ttates that Earl Grey arrived in the Cathedral City last night from South, and was welcomed by the Deputy-Mayor and others. He will remain there till Saturday. By request, no public functions are being held.
Mr. Malcolm Ross, of Wellington, arrived in London last month, after a very extensive tour of the Continent, /particularly Austria-Hungt ry. After overlooking the proofs of a book recently written on the "Alps of New Zealand," he intended to go over to Ireland, to look into the Ulster question on the spot, and take steps to settle the whole trouble. The death -v-curred at <!revtown on Tuesday r.:or;ii!ig of Mr. F. W. King, a settler 1,1 over -JO years" standing. The deceased, who was 71 years of age, was greatly respected in 'the district. A widow and family of six children are left. The children are Messrs. R. J. King (of Masterton, tho well-known rifle-shot), F. King (Hastings), H. King (New Plymouth), and Mcsdames W. Baker (Wellington), C. Wiggins (Greytown) and D. Baker (Feilding).
