CANADIAN' MILLERS' PROPOSAL. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Ottawa, March 2. The Dominion Millers' Association '"'jjiaL the Government to establish a I'jflPn State-owned steamers between Canada and Britain to combat increasing ocean freights. They stated that during the last few years rates had increased from 40 to 75 per cent. Mr. Borden was not in favor of a Government line and suggested that the millers and farmers should co-operate in creating or patronising a line.
A CONFERENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, March ">. A conference was held this morning between Messrs Massey and Rhodes 1 . r& presentatives of the Auckland and Wellington Chambers of Commerce, and the Union Company, regarding the San Francisco and Vancouver mail service. The discussion centred round the flat rate for the carriage of dairy produce from all New Zealand ports, more refrigerating space on steamers trading between New Zealand and San Francisco and Vancouver, and the alteration in booking ahead for space. The result is a representative of the Union Company is to meet representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and thrash out details with them.
