TIMARU HARBOR.
PROGRESS OF WORKS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Tinmru, Saturday. Hie harbor engineer reported to the Board yesterday that the soundings outside the harbor works show no change. Some reduction ia found within the curve of the outer (eastern) mole, also in Caroline Buy, on the north side of the harbor works, where the sand lias increased by G to 18 inches in five years, and low-water mark has gone out 10ft per annum. The shingle accumulation on the south side, of the moles is about ton feet per annum. The estimate of the sand defposit in the I>ay is about 150,001) tons per annum. Much of this is likely to be trapped by the dredged aprpoaeh to the chauu. At present it is estimated that the total silt deposit is 1(000,000 tons per annum, This may be easily dealt with by dredging. The Nelson Board has enquired the terms for the hire of the bucket dredge for n term, and these are to be sent: f« per day and £0 per hour overtime, iplus cost of dismantling, and £IOO per month towards insurance. A good start lias been made wilh the addition of 4i>()ft to the eastern mole.
