A FIREMAN'S DEATH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hamilton, Saturday. '■ At the inquest on John William CUannon, acting-fireman, who was killed at Fnmkton itation, evidence showed that he had been working twelve hours continuously. He was putting the break on a truck when he became jammed between the truck and the coal bin. The verdict was accidental death, and a rider was also added that the jury considered the fireman's hours too long and urging a reduction. t RACING MISHAPS. Waiganui, Last Night. J. Conquest, the rider of Tiresome in the Wangaimi Stakes yesterday, f-nd E. Murtagh, the, rider of Merrie Lad, were more badly hurt than was ab flrjfc supposed. The condition of both last night was grave, but at two o'clock this afternoon they had picked up slightly, and are now semi-eon6eio»g.
WOMAN'S SUDDKN D^JATH. Invereargill, Last Night. A woman named Adamson, residing at Clifton, died suddenly yesterday. A doctor was summoned, but on arrival pronounced life extinct. The, circumstances point to poisoning. An inquest will be held. A YOUNG MAN SHOT. Auckland, Last Night. A young man named Leslie Mills was admitted to tho hospital on Saturday suffering from serious injuries caused by a gunshot. It is stated that the young man was in a shed at the back of a house in Park Avenue, when tho sound of a shot startled some residents in tha vicinity, and Mills was found bleeding profusely. He was taken to the hospital. Mills is a ship's steward, 18 years of age. . :•■
A WOMAN'S SAD END. Dunediu, Last Night. Mrs Doocey, a resident of St. Kildft, . fell in Princess Street yesterday, as th» result of a collision with a drunken man, and struck her head on the pavement. She appeared to bo none the worse for the mishap, and went shopping, but an hour later she complained ,of pains in her head, and was taken to the hospital, where paralys'w " l '"i the woman dying at nine oVlu- ; A CHILD DROWNED. ' Duncdin, Last Night. Ellen Mary Ttoss, live years of age, was drowned at Puketeraki yesterday. Her parents reside in the Dominion.
