They would not impose new food duties, but hoped to remove some, of the existing duties. They would impose a tarill' not exceeding su«. iiu;!vn»c of ten per cent, on foreign fjiiods, ami cstablisli Imperial preference. Suck duties could be justilied on the strictest free trade principles by the. needs of revenue. Indian and Egyptian farmers would be compensated by using a portion of the tariff for revenue, reducing the burdens of agriculture, 'flu re would also be a re-adjustment of local taxation. The annual value of imported luxuries was thirty millions, which was beat able to bear a tariff.
WAGES OF LABOR.

Samuel, on behalf of the Government, has adopted Mr. Verney'e Bill fixing all the polls at the general election, except the Universities, for the same day.
