XOTKS OX THE MEKTIXG. By "Moturoa." W'anganui, Last Night. Despite (lie boisterous weather, there was a large attendance, including a big crowd of Taranaki sports, at tl;e Wan ganui autumn meeting. The winners were not easy to pick, and the dividends were good all through the day. The New Zealand' Cup winner .Sinapis won the big race oiv her merits, and she paid a surprisingly good dividend. The proceedings opened with the Stewards' Handicap, for which Patronalc and Expect were solidly supported. Guiding Way. Passadena and Coroinandel led in the turn, but Expect romped over the opposition. At the finish Patronnle ran wretchedly. Vocation. Historietle. and Princess Moutoa carried the bulk of the investments in the Petre Hack Handicap, A straggling start saw Anticipation in front, with Princess and Moutoa handy. The latter easily beat Aratiatia home. Ilistoriette made up a lot of ground in the straight, and Brunswick and Belaseo finished next. Bercola and Knrnalpi were favorites for the West mere Hurdles. Whimper lost its rider at the first fence, and Kurnalpi fell when running well four furlongs from home. Timothy made the pace for a mile -and three-ijuavters, hut Rover easily settled him in the run kome..
Waipukti and Taiirangi were strong orders in the Hack Hurdles, but were never dangerous, Anrnke and St. Gate led all the way, Auraki outstaying his rival after a fine race. The whole fifteen carded started' in the Cup. Sir Solo. Bronze. Leonta and Bon Ton carried a ton of money, over £SOOO being invstcd on the race. Bon Ton and Moutoa '!;rl broke I he line, hut Cheddar quickly ran to the fiuwit, and was just ahead nf Bnn Ton. Passin" the stand along the back, Cl'wddar retired and Mouto'.i Girl took the lead again followed by Sinapis, who had been handy throughout, and Tiresome. Sir Solo and Marshal McDonald followed. Moutoa Girl was still in front at the' turn, but Sinapis ranged alongside helow the distance and easilv beat the lightweight home by buff a'length. Sir Solo finished strongly fair third. Then came Leonta. Marshal McDonald, Manawakaha and Sir Knci.v, with Lord Itenown last.
A surprise awaited backers of i;,. n . contre, a strong older in the Juvenile TT-.indi« up. Canute stumbled at the start, and Record led a bunched crowd passing the stand. Square Deal was in front alon" the >back. and led r.ubriline and Centcn" ary into the straight. Centenary and Square Deal were fighting out tile'finish when Kimbombi came and beat the pair on the post, only heads separating the three placed horses.
The Flymg Handicap was another great betting race, Sauci Culprit and Makara 'carrying i lot of oioncj,
