EVERETT ROAD SCENIC RESERVE.

To tiie .Editor. Sir, —I would like to join with a "Lofcr of the Bush" in his protest against the cutting up and sale of the above reserve. Jt is a great pity that the. importance of conserving pieces of i our natural lwsli and of protecting the bush along most of our rivers had not been recognised years ago. There is not the least doubt that this country will pay severely in-.the future for the early mistake. Therefore those who recognise the natural beauty of our native bush would do well to join in protesting against the proposed destruction, and, further, add to the request that proper steps be taken to protect the same. Jt is a well-known fact that certain gentlemen in the Inglewood district have ben pulling wires for a considerable period in order to bring about the participation of the reserve under notice. It's all very well to growl about the danger of weeds, etc. It is as "Lover of the Bush" sayß—there, is only a small strip along the edges that is in any way likely to be troublesome, and if the Scenic Preservation Society would see to planting those edges with pinus insignia so as to prevent the cutting winds from killing the natural bush it would be a wise step, for it would also lessen the weed danger. We kear the selfish tale "that more milk would be produced, and thus better the Mmmunity by increased production and also lesse* the cost of running the adjacent creamery," but that is a very open question, as there is nothing to bar a purchaser of a section from going in for sheep or grazing cattle. However, the community, or thoso of them who recognise that we -owe a duty to the future, should see to it that the reserve is held and also protected from damage by the elements by at once formulating a vigorous protest against the reserve being taken as is proposed.—l am, etc., JOE J5. SIMPSON. Durham Road.
