FURNITURE TRADE CONTINENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington; Yesterday. Ace important conference affecting the .furniture trade is to be held at Christchuivh at Easter. Delegates from the New Zealand Furniture Trade Employees' Federation and the Federated Furnishing Trade 'Society of Australasia will be present and the question of federation between Australia and New Zealand be discussed. Another question will be the establishment of a federal trade journal to protect the interests of furniture trade workers throughout the whole of Australia. TO LAC, A RAY FIRE. (iisborne, Yesterdar. At Tolaga Hay yesterday Thomas W'entvvorth Martiif was committed for trial on a charge of counselling arson. The chief witness for the prosecution was George Fannin, who had already pleaded guilty to setting fire to .Martin's shop. ALLEGED THEFT. Dargaville, Yesterday. George John Burbury, a recent arrival from Home, was arrested at Aratapu yesterday for the theft of a gold watch and two chains valued at €ls 15s from the Central Hotel, also a portmanteau belonging to another boarder. The chains were sold with the portmanteau to different people. The watch was hidden on the railwav line bo Kaihiu, which place he -made for after the theft, lie walked 30 miles over the giimfields to Aratapu, where Jce was arrested. Most of the property was recovered.
