EVERETT ROAD RESERVE.
Residents of the district who tiro interested in the preservation of their natural scenic beauties will have !in opportunity during the next few weeks of giving practical help to the movement which Ims for its ebject the, protection of the Kv<n'etl' road reserve from destruction. It will ho remembered that in an ill-advised momcit last session, the Government agreed to lift the reservation on this block, presumably for the purpose ai throwing it open for settlement. This was done before the people had time to realise what was taking' place, and there was 110 opportunity for a representative expression of opinion on the subject. It is hoped now to show the Government the mistake which bus been made, and the true feeling of tho public towards their action. The petition to be presented is as follows: To the Righ Honorable, the Minister for Lands,—We, the undersigned inhabitants of Taranaki, feeling that it is most desirable that occupiers in tke jmmediate vicinity of any reservation should decide its fate, do pray that you will retain for public use and benefit that fine piece of native forest, commonly known as the Everett Road Reserve; because, apart from climatic and other reasons, it is the only reservation remaining in the district ttiat exhibits the forestfringed bank of a New Zealand river. And your petitioners, as in duty bound will ever pray. The petition is brief and to the point, ami there can be little doubt that it will be signed by such numbers that the Government will see the wisdom of yielding to tke prayer.
