The Minister of Justice states ho requires one hundred additional constables for service in various parts of the country to meet the growing demands of settlement. • Keplying this afternoon to a deputation asking for additional protection in a part of the city, Mr. Hcrdman referred to the difficult ie» under which the short-staffed police force at present carried out its duties. He was constantly receiving complaints from rap-idly-growing districts, such as Ohakune, where there was only one constable, that more police were required, He intended to ask the Minister of Finanee for the necessary funds to increase ths force l»y one hundred rac».
