His confession to the police implicated Thomas Wentworth Martin, owner of tho butcher's shop destroyed, -by lire. A charge iigiimsl Martin is now being beard.
APPLK EXPORT. N'clson, Yesterday. The first South American apple shipment takes place this week. The buyers could take a hundred thousand cases, and arc prepared to pay as much for Xew Zealand apples, especially Nelson apples, hero as for Tasmanian landed at Monte Video, the reason being ■that tho color of New Zealand apples makes them superior sellers. Mr. Kowlands, the expert packer, on Saturday wrapped and packed 2W cases of apples m twalve hours. This is claimed to be a n-cord, averaging seventeen per hour.

In the Supreme Court Alfred Toiiili*son, a clerk, was sentenced to IS months' imprisonment for thefts of money from his employers, THEFTS IX TIAWKIiA DISTRICT. Ilawera, Yesterday. In the Magistrate's Court to-day/lid-ward Ernest Barlow, a young man -21 years of age, pleaded guilty to twentv charges of thefts of money in smaii sums totalling C 27, (committed over the district between December 25 and February 15. He was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labor.
