SOUTHLAND WOOL SALES. j Jiv Telegraph.—Press Association. Invcrcargill, Friday. The second wool .sale of ihe season was held here this afternoon, when a total of 822"2 bales was oll'ered and sold under keen competition from Atiierv-m and Continental houses. Fine crossbred and halfbred wools brought prices in advanee of the January sales, but strong wools or pieces were not so marked. XRW PLYMOUTH WOOL, HIDE, SKIN AND TALLOW SALES. L. A. NOLAN AND CO.'S REPORT. We held our four-weekly sale of tbe above in our Cill street store on Tuesday, February 10. We submitted an average catalogue to good competition, and have to report as follows:
Hides—Ox hides were in very small quantity, ami it is hardly possible to compare prises with those of last month. Clows sold at about %d lower all round for good butchers'; faulty and settlers' •rough lines showed a decline of Vid to •/ U (l per lb.
• Sheepskins—We. offered no shipping lines of dry skins. Best lines of full■wools and lambs sold at last month's rates. The bulk of our offering were •salted lines, just under 1001) being offered.
,Wool—Fleece sold at late rates, busli wools being again well represented and selling at quite late rates. Lambs' wool did not sell at quite what we expected. Prices offered were generally about lower than anticipated. However, we cleared our catal/igue, with the exception of two lines. We sold three bales at 7%d, one at 8(1, 11 at S'/jd, eight at 'B%d, six at Art, throe at !)%d, two bales lambs' iS',' s d, two at Sil, three at ltd, four at !>'/!d and three at !)'/,d. Tallow, in casks, realised last month's rates. AUCKLAND MARKETS. The Xew Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., reports: At Westlield yards on Wednesday fat cattle were yarded in full numbers, and sold under steady competition at late rates, best oxen selling to 30s per 1001b, 'others 2lls to 28s; cows and heifers 24s to 28s. Steers sold at £7 15s to £l4 r>s, cows and heifers £4 to £9 ss. A of 10 steers from Tainahere averaged £l2 lis fld. Veal calves were penned in usual numbers and sold at ■late rates. Heavy vealcrs £3 10s to £4 10s, medium weight £2 5s to £3 7s, lighter weight 20s to 375, smaller sorts 3s to 18s. Sheep came forward in large numbers and sold under steadiy competition at improved rates. Best wethers sold at from 21s !)d to 24s 3d, others 17s (id to 21s, ewes, extra well fatted, 17s Od to 20s 3d. others 13s Od to 10s fld, inferiorlv fatted lis Ud to 13s 3d. Lambs were in full supply, but owing to freezing buyers not being able to operate, they sold at lower rates. First quality sold at front l.is 3d to 17s 3d, others'fls fid to 14s !)d, shorn 7s lid to 10s Od. Pigs came forward in average numbers and sold well. Baconers £3 10s to £3 15s. large porkers £2 5s to £2 15s, porkers £1 lfw t" £'2 2s, slips 20s to 30s. At West field yards oil Thursday last dairy and store cattle came forward in good numbers, and sold at late rates. Best dairy cows and heifers, close to profit, sold at from £8 10s to £lO 10s, others £5 to £8 ss, aged and inferior cows £3 to £4 10s, empty cows £2 18s. to £4 4s. calves 20s to £1 15s, steers £S 15s to £!) Os.
