IRONWORKERS' STRIKE
MORE TROUBLE BREWING. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright Sydney, February 20. The ironworkers' strike is spreading. The employees at the Clyde, Meadowbank and Auburn establishments are out, making a total of 1200. This number will be largely increased to-day. .Unless there is an early settlement, it is feared ten thousand in the iron trades will, directly and indirectly, be affected. The Labor Council called a mass meeting to-day to consider the situation. It is unlikely the Government railways and other public works will be involved-. Trouble is threatened among the tramwaymen, and the service is generally restive. A movement is on fo*t in the direction of securing improved conditions and increased wages. A SPREAD OF THE TROUBLE. Received 20, 8.35 p.m. Sydney, February 20. The ironworkers' trouble has reached the Colonial Sugar Co.'s refinery works at Pyrmont. where 50 struck tu-day. A meeting of the Council of ithe iron trades unions and the Labor Council lias formed a defence committee. Mr. Holme is endeavoring to get the parties together, but unsuccessfully.
