A DARING THEFT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Wednesday. A daring theft is reported from Tirau. Two days ago a member of a. private company whose, works are in the vicinity of the town, with a bag in Ins possession containing about £SO in gold and a manlier of cheques, called at one of the business promises in the township. While there lie had occasion to go outside for a few' minutes, asking a friend to keep an eye on the bag. The friend had his attention distracted for a few minutes, and oil returning to his trust found the bag gone. The police are making ein]iiivies. NEWSPAPERS yrAKRKLLTNX;. Wellington, yesterday. The Chief Justice to-day heard argument on the application by defendant ■in the libel case Times v. Dominion, for ipave to deliver interrogatories, which sought to ascertain details of the circulation of the Times from tin; beginning of the strike, and details of the advertising business of Hie Times before and after the publication in the Dominion of the article complained of. Argument will lie resumed to-morrow.
